Coach Requirements

         

COACHING REQUIREMENTS

VERY IMPORTANT: For Minor Hockey Male and Female: All coaches must obtain the appropriate coaching level, as defined by the Regulations, by February 1st of the current season. It is the Minor Hockey Associations responsibility to ensure all their coaches have the proper coaching certification. If a coach does not obtain the appropriate coaching certification levels, the Minor Hockey Association they are registered with will be fined $50.00 and he/she may be suspended for the rest of the season and that coach will be unable to be registered for the next season by any Minor Hockey Association until such time all deficient coaching certifications are completed.

Please Note: If you have just moved to Saskatchewan and have taken a Coaching clinic, Speak Out clinic or any clinic from a different province, your certification will qualify here. Please contact your old Branch office and ask them to transfer your certification to Saskatchewan Hockey Association office.

Along with the proper NCCP certifications –
  1. All Team Officials require Respect In Sport Certification.
  2. At least 1 team official must have their Safety certification
  3. At least 1 Coach must have their Checking Certification.
  4. Teams must have at least one coach with the proper certification on the bench at all times
  5. Teams must have at least (1) person who is defined as the Head Coach and must have the appropriate Coaching Certification Level

AGREEMENT:

As a coach, you are responsible for the actions of all players and other coaches while at all games, tournaments and practices, both on the ice and in the dressing room, prior to and after scheduled games and practices.

All Coaches must wear proper CSA approved helmets during on ice practice sessions.

All coaches must have the required coaching certifications, including Speak Out, for the age group of athletes being coached, before February.

Any coach not having his/her appropriate certifications will be fined by the SHA and suspended for the balance of the season by CMHA. CMHA will also require him/her to complete the appropriate certifications before he/she will be allowed to coach next season. CMHA may reimburse for any certifications completed. Please submit receipt to the CMHA Secretary.

The Head Coach is responsible to ensure that 1 team official has/will complete Safety and/or Bodychecking as required depending on division coaching. Failure to complete will result in the team being fined $500.

The team must ensure all CMHA hockey jerseys are kept in the team garment bags at all times throughout the year.  The Jersey policy will remain in effect as stated in the registration policy.

Any matters of misconduct by players, coaches or parents must be reported immediately to the CMHA Executive.

Demonstrate respect for the principles of Fair Play in Sport: respect for players, coaches, and parents; respect for opponents and their coaches and parents; respect for the rules and the officials involved in the game.

Coaches will be expected to act in a manner which is beyond reproach by avoiding any action or conduct that would reasonably be expected to reflect adversely on the Association or our members. They will develop and foster a hockey environment whereby all players and coaches are treated with respect and dignity.

Coaches that use alcohol and/or drugs during a sanctioned minor hockey function will face disciplinary action.

Coaches will encourage measures and practices that promote the healthy development of athletes, coaches and officials so all can excel to their potential.

Coaches will accept the extended responsibility of recognizing and addressing the harmful personal practice of others in hockey, including drug and alcohol abuse, and physical and mental abuse.
